Corvair Houston is excited to be hosting this year’s Heart of Texas event! We announced during the 2012 HOT that our selection would be the YO Resort in Kerrville, but due to the travel times for many members we decided to change the location to the La Torretta Resort and Spa located on beautiful Lake Conroe. Its location will be much easier for drivers, especially those traveling from the north. Our goal is to provide you with a FUN filled weekend “Corvair Retreat” that you will not forget. The official title for this year’s event is “Corvair d’Elegance”. From the moment you drive onto the Resort and the experiences that we have planned for you, you will understand why we are calling it “Corvair d’Elegance”.
This three day event will kick off Friday evening, April 12. Registration will take place in the Conference Center opening at 3 pm. You will have the option to dine at the Resort or at a nearby restaurant. After you finish your check-ins at the Resort and 2013 HOT registration area, you will have the opportunity to reunite with friends at the Energie Bar. Energy, music, and maybe a chance to show your vocal chords by doing some karaoke will set the theme for the evening. If that’s not your style, you can also join us at the Piano Bar.
We will start Saturday morning with the “Corvair d’Elegance” Car Show located on the grounds of the Resort. We are planning to have around 70 cars with our standard classes as well as several new classes of awards. Our “Best of Show” and presentation of awards will be done later in the afternoon at the Garden Patio at the Resort. You will be able to see both the cars and talk to the owners. The presentation will truly be in the “d’Elegance” style!
Following the Car Show, the “Sam Houston Econo-Driving Tour” will begin at 11:30. This driving tour will be an “Economy Rally” with great scenery through the Sam Houston Forest. Lunch will be held at “Yankee’s Grille”. This is a popular local stop for antique cars and motorcycle riders. Yankee’s will be catering lunch for our group. BBQ will be prepared on their outdoor grilles and served to tasty perfection. We will park our vehicles on their lawn and allow the patrons to vote on their favorite car for the “People’s Choice” award.
Saturday evening will begin with the presentation of awards at the Garden Patio at 5 pm. Once the awards have been presented we will have our banquet dinner in the Bordeaux Room overlooking Lake Conroe. This will give us a chance to visit with friends and give away 70 plus door prizes! We also have the possibility of finishing the evening with a Lake Cruise, based on your desired interest.
On Sunday, we usually say our good byes and head home right from the hotel or resort. This year we have decided to close the event in a big way. We will make a short 15 minute ride to the Thomas Ranch. This is a working 3,000 acre farm. We will have breakfast at the Carriage House located on the property. While you are there you will have the opportunity to see Bill Thomas’s collection of cars and trains, and also see his vineyard. We will discuss 2014 HOT and say our good-byes there, to another wonderful weekend of “Corvairing”.
